October Currently

Even though it's still warm in Texas, I'm excited for October to finally arrive! October through December is always one of my favorite times of year. A new month means another currently link up with Farley.

Listening- Besides It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown there is one more MUST WATCH for October...

Hocus Pocus! I've always loved this movie during October! As soon as I settle down for the night this movie will be watched until I fall asleep.

Loving- Earlier on Instagram I posted a pic of our bulletin board with our candy corn art.

Thinking- This Saturday I'll be running my 6th 5k. I've got my pink tutu, pink sunglasses, and pink knee high socks ready! If (big if at this point) I have time I'll make a blinged out tank top to wear.

My other thought is should I carve a pumpkin. I'm 30 years old with no children of my own, but I've always loved pumpkin carving. I want to carve a neat design I've seen on Pinterest and put it on my porch. Any thoughts on this teacher friends?

Wanting and Needing go hand in hand- I DESPISE laundry more than any household chore. I'd rather do a sink full of dishes than laundry.

Trick or Treat-Who doesn't love a good pumpkin pie? Last year I found this yummy recipe on Pinterest. Believe me when I tell y'all it's sooooo good! Healthy and no bake? Yes please!

Monday Made It

Happy Monday teacher friends! I went back to my classroom today to start working little by little.

 You know how you can tell you've returned back to school? When you don't stop to take a potty break until 3:00 in the afternoon! I'm linking up again with 4th Grade Frolics for some Monday Made It  fun!

Earlier I shared my finished product on Instagram. Bright colors always make me happy. Excuse my fresh faced (read no makeup and lazy) look ha! I noticed the smudges on the top right of the frame after taking pics and touched it up later in the day.

With the exception of the letters, I bought everything at Michael's a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully I can find another project to use the spray paint with. The color is too fabulous to let it sit unused. I originally was going to purchase chalkboard spray paint, but the bottle was on clearance for less than $1.

A teacher friend stopped by just as I was finished with everything. I'll rewrite 1st in fancier writing just before school and I'll switch it for the 100th and last day of school. 

The completed project cost me around $22. Don't forget to link up and share your awesome creations!

Monday Made It

Happy Monday everyone! I realized today my summer break is drawing to an end, eek! I have a little over 3 weeks before I go back to school for staff development. I don't know about you, but I always like going back a few days early to get a head start on my classroom.

I'm linking up with 4th Grade Frolics for my first Monday Made It post! I've seen this linky pop up on my Bloglovin news feed, and decided it was time to participate.
Have you seen the super cute library paint sticks on Pinterest? Last year I had a system in place for students to remember which basket to return class books too but it didn't last long. My minis used numbered clothespins to clip onto baskets which worked great for a couple of weeks, then the clothespins were constantly breaking ugh!
Here's everything I used for the library paint sticks.

I got the paint sticks for free from Home Depot. The holes were drilled in the sticks by a sweet employee. Shout out to my local Home Depot for being so helpful to me! The cupcake numbers are a freebie from Twinkl Printable Resources on TPT that I laminated to make them last. I already had the spray paint.

I laid out the paint sticks outside and sprayed to even coats of paint on each side. Thankfully no spray paint got on me, clothes, or the sidewalk yay!

I kicked up my heels in the lovely ac while I waited for it all to dry. At first I was concerned the red would be too bright, but I was pleased with the end result. I love how the red pops. The cute polka dot ribbon I found at Hobby Lobby.

Side note: Some of the sticks I went back and sprayed again for a more even color.

Voila! This was an easy peasy affordable craft. I can't wait for these to get used! Don't forget to link up with your own Monday Made It and join the fun. 

New Door Stop

Last year I had a constant dilemma with the class door stop. Either it had found it's way hidden behind something when needed or it would bend out of shape and take forever to stay put, ugh! I've seen lots of cute door stop ideas using bricks or a rain boot, but worried that would be too heavy and bulky for smaller hands to handle easily. 

While out and about shopping for school supplies today, inspiration hit in Hobby Lobby. I could spend all day in that store! I had to remind myself I was on a mission for only a few specific things.

This door stop was super easy and inexpensive to make. I originally intended to use a clear can as my base, but the black zebra complimented the sparkly pink so well I was hooked.

I was undecided at first about using the pink vinyl or pink sparkly sticker at first. I can't resist sparkles, so it won in the end. The letters and stickers I purchased at Michael's. When I got home I noticed one side of the handle was giving me some difficulty so I secured it with a dot of hot glue.

 I put a few bags of accent gems in the can to give it some weight. The gems were purchased cheaper at Dollar Tree. I may go back and layer with different colors to give it some extra oomph.

Five minutes later my new door stop is complete and ready to go! I can't wait to take my new creation to school when I start setting up next week!

Cupcake Poms

Welcome to my first blog post! Tissue poms are popping up in classrooms everywhere right now. I was feeling crafty and decided to do something unique with this concept, so I turned to Google and did a search for cupcake pom poms. Within seconds I had tons of adorable images filling my laptop screen. I loved the easy to follow directions found at Fun Favors and decided to take the plunge. I headed to Michael's with my teacher badge in hand (hello 15% everyday teacher discount) and purchased a 6 inch Styrofoam ball for practice. There's always cupcake liners in my kitchen so I didn't need any of those.

Eventually the pom will hang from my classroom ceiling so I marked and secured a spot with a paper clip. I took extra care with the cupcake liners so they wouldn't tear. My manicure made that sometimes difficult. Slowly but surely the ball started to get covered.

For my practice ball I decided on two different types of cupcake liners. After an hour, a burnt index finger, and watching Bravo my little project was finally complete!

After taking this picture I filled in that awkward space at the bottom with one more liner. Voila all finished! I'll get started on a few more of these soon so each group in my classroom has one above their area.
